As part of Census–2027, the Registrar General of India has issued a strong warning stating that strict action will be taken against officials who deliberately ask people inappropriate, objectionable or irrelevant questions. It was clarified that officials engaging in such conduct while conducting the census may face a penalty of up to ₹1,000 along with imprisonment of up to three years, as prescribed under the law.
In directives issued to the states, Registrar General and Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan emphasized that all officials must strictly adhere to the guidelines during the census process. He also urged them to ensure that the dignity and respect of citizens are maintained at all times.
