US President Donald Trump has once again expressed displeasure over India’s crude oil purchases from Russia. He warned that if India continues importing Russian oil, he would consider imposing higher tariffs. “Prime Minister Modi is a very good person. He knows that I am not happy. It is very important to keep me happy,” Trump remarked. His warning has drawn attention as it comes at a time when trade negotiations between India and the United States are currently underway.
The White House on Monday released an audio clip related to President Donald Trump. In the audio, Trump stated, “India continues its trade transactions with the US. I will soon impose tariffs on India’s trade. I want India to make me happy. Prime Minister Modi is a very good person. He knows that I am not pleased. It is very important for India to satisfy me.” It is noteworthy that in the past, the US had imposed tariffs of up to 50 percent on India.
