Heavy rainfall continues to wreak havoc across parts of southern Africa, particularly in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Flooding triggered by relentless rains has claimed more than 100 lives and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
Weather agencies have warned that rainfall may intensify further in the coming days, deepening concerns among affected communities. In Mozambique alone, over 200,000 people have been impacted, with thousands of homes destroyed by floods.
Zimbabwe has reported around 70 deaths, while more than 1,000 houses have been washed away. Essential infrastructure, including schools, roads, and bridges, has suffered extensive damage.
In South Africa, the death toll has risen to 30. Rescue operations are in full swing, with helicopters deployed to evacuate stranded residents. Floodwaters also reached the famous Kruger National Park, where nearly 600 tourists and staff were safely moved to secure locations.
According to the US weather warning system, climate variations linked to La Niña are causing intense rainfall across at least seven African nations.
