In the phone-tapping case, the Supreme Court is set to hear the bail petition of the main accused, Prabhakar Rao, today. Considering the conclusion of Rao’s previous custody proceedings, a new phase in the case is now beginning. The SIT team had taken Rao into custody for 14 days and conducted a detailed investigation. Today, arguments regarding this custody investigation will be presented in the Supreme Court. The SIT team is expected to submit a comprehensive report of the proceedings to the court.
The SIT may argue that Prabhakar Rao did not fully cooperate with the investigation, and therefore, seek permission to arrest him. Until now, according to the Supreme Court’s directions, the SIT was only allowed to conduct the investigation without taking any further action against Rao. Consequently, the team has so far only carried out the custody investigation. However, reports indicate that the SIT is also considering arresting him to complete a full inquiry. There is significant anticipation surrounding whether the Supreme Court will grant bail, approve an arrest or extend the custody period for Prabhakar Rao. This decision has drawn considerable attention from the public and the media alike.
