Tension briefly escalated in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, after gunshots were heard near the Miraflores Presidential Palace. The incident occurred on Monday evening local time in the central area surrounding the presidential complex.
Security forces reported spotting unidentified drones flying over the palace at the same time. Treating the drones as a potential threat, the military and security agencies immediately moved into action and reportedly opened fire as a precautionary measure.
The Venezuelan government later issued an official statement assuring citizens that the situation was fully under control. Authorities urged the public to remain calm, stating there was no immediate danger. Security has since been reinforced in and around the presidential palace.
