A major accident was narrowly averted involving the 12604 Superfast train running from Charlapalli in Hyderabad to Chennai Central early Tuesday morning. At around 2:58 am, the train reportedly crossed a danger signal at Bitragunta station in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district without stopping. However, it came to a halt after moving nearly half a kilometre ahead. Railway officials said that had the train continued at the same speed, a serious mishap could have occurred.
Following the incident, railway authorities rushed to the spot and deboarded the loco pilots and train managers as a precautionary measure. After making alternative arrangements, the train was allowed to resume its journey. Divisional-level railway officials and medical officers are reportedly conducting a discreet inquiry with the staff to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
