Eliminating the need to stand in queues, fill out forms, and visit railway offices for parcel bookings, the South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced a next-generation ‘Rail Parcel App’. The application was officially launched on Wednesday at a railway station by Zone General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava. According to SCR officials, this is the first comprehensive digital parcel logistics application introduced in Indian Railways, enabling customers to book parcel services as easily as booking a taxi.
The app allows users to complete parcel booking and delivery arrangements directly from their homes, significantly improving convenience and efficiency. As part of a pilot project, the service has been rolled out in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajamahendravaram, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Additionally, SCR has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIM Bengaluru to study freight logistics markets across the zone, which is expected to support Indian Railways’ goal of achieving freight transportation of 3,000 million tonnes by 2030.
