The Central Government has decided to revoke the detention imposed on prominent environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk. With this decision, he is set to be released from jail after six months. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs officially announced this development.
A case was registered against Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA) following clashes that occurred in the Leh region last September, amidst demands for granting statehood to Ladakh. Deemed responsible for those disturbances, he had been detained in jail ever since. Now that the Centre has revoked his detention, the path for his release has been cleared.
