Saudi Arabia is witnessing unprecedented weather changes. Typically, the desert nation experiences high temperatures, dry conditions, and vast stretches of sand-covered terrain. However, over the past 30 years, the region has seen extraordinary shifts in its climate. While recent heavy rainfall was notable, extreme snowfall and temperatures dropping to near zero at dawn have taken locals by surprise. In some areas, temperatures have even fallen to minus 4 degrees Celsius.
The mountains in the Tabuk Province are now extensively covered with snow. At an altitude of 2,600 meters, the Trojena region has experienced both snow and rainfall. In the Ha’il region, strong winds have contributed to widespread rainfall. Videos capturing these extreme weather events are going viral online.
The Saudi Meteorological Center responded to these unusual conditions, explaining that cold winds interacting with clouds are causing these weather changes. Authorities have advised residents in flood-prone areas to move to safe locations. Additionally, some provinces have already been instructed to conduct online classes for students in view of the ongoing extreme weather.
