Russia has announced a new visa program aimed at attracting foreign professionals. Under this initiative, experts in various fields can apply for temporary or permanent residency in Russia for up to three years.
President Vladimir Putin recently visited India, and media reports suggest that the official orders for this visa program were signed prior to his visit.
The program is intended to strengthen the India-Russia mobility agreement and will be available starting April 15, 2026. The visa targets specialists in key sectors such as science, economics, industry, education, culture, business, and sports, along with their family members.
Applicants do not need to pass a Russian language test to apply for temporary residency for three years. The process will be conducted in two stages:
Candidates apply through designated agencies.
Eligible candidates can then apply for temporary or permanent residency.
Agency approval is valid for one year. Applicants and their families can submit applications online. Once approved, they will receive a business visa valid for one year. Those with pending applications for temporary or permanent residency will also be eligible for a work permit. Immigration authorities will process applications within 30 days.
