Punjab Police have foiled a major terror conspiracy ahead of Republic Day celebrations, acting on intelligence alerts about a possible terror threat across the country. In a special operation, Punjab Police busted a terror module linked to the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and arrested six accused. According to the Punjab DGP, the group was planning to create large-scale panic during Republic Day. The operation comes amid heightened security following warnings issued by the Intelligence Bureau to all states.
During the arrests, police recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) made with 2.5 kilograms of RDX, along with two firearms and ammunition. Preliminary investigation revealed that the module was being operated by BKI handlers based in the United States. A case has been registered at the Garhshankar Police Station in Hoshiarpur under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act. Police officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway to uncover further links and prevent future threats.
