Telangana DGP B. Shivadar Reddy has warned police officers to stay away from corruption. “Uniform and corruption cannot coexist. Those entrusted with maintaining law and order must not engage in illegal gains; strict action will follow otherwise,” he stated in a letter to police personnel on his very first day as DGP. The letter highlighted several issues and issued a firm warning. Despite this, reports suggest there has been no change in the police approach toward accepting bribes. On Wednesday, DGP Reddy reiterated his warning: “Police must remain free from corruption, resolve public grievances, and maintain peace and security.”
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified investigations after receiving numerous complaints from citizens regarding police bribery. Recently, at the RGI Airport Police Outpost in Shamshabad, Inspector Sampathi Kanakayya and SI U.K. Siddeshwar demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakh in a case to file a chargesheet without arresting the accused family members. They were caught by ACB officials on Tuesday night while accepting ₹2 lakh.
