Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s son, Akira Nandan, has approached the Delhi High Court, alleging that his personality and privacy rights have been violated through a film created using artificial intelligence (AI). In his petition, Akira stated that the movie employed AI morphing and deepfake technology to replicate his facial expressions, voice and personal identity without consent.
The petition also highlighted that numerous fake social media profiles and pages on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X were operating under his name. Akira requested the court to direct the removal of these accounts. The Delhi High Court accepted the petition and issued notices to the respondents.
Subsequently, the High Court issued a ban on the AI-generated love story film, noting that using Akira Nandan’s name, image, likeness, voice and personality through AI and deepfake technologies amounted to exploitation. The court emphasized that creating content that distorts the petitioner’s image in a way that harms his reputation constitutes a violation of his privacy rights.
The court also instructed Meta, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X to remove the associated social media accounts and disclose relevant IP details. The case was heard before Justice Tushar Rao Dharmasthana. Senior advocate Sai Deepak represented Akira Nandan, while Google was represented by Aditya Gupta and Meta by Varun Pathak.
