The United States is set to introduce new H-1B visa rules starting next year, giving greater importance to salary levels, skills, and experience while continuing the lottery-based selection process. These changes will apply to applications submitted in March 2026 for the 2027 fiscal year.
According to USCIS, applicants will be categorized into four wage-based levels, with higher-paid professionals receiving more chances in the lottery system. While demand remains extremely high nearly 750,000 applications for 85,000 visas annually the revised structure aims to favor experienced and highly skilled professionals.
Legal experts have indicated that the new rules could face court challenges, as similar attempts in the past were blocked by judicial intervention.
