Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics Nara Lokesh has directed officials to prepare detailed guidelines and a draft law aimed at restricting children below 13 years from using social media. A high-level meeting was held at his Undavalli residence with ministers, officials, and representatives of social media platforms to discuss child digital safety and regulatory frameworks. The minister emphasized the need to protect children from the harmful effects of social media and ensure age-appropriate content access for those between 13 and 16 years.
He further stated that strict action will be taken against those posting abusive, hateful, or derogatory comments against women on social media. Officials were instructed to study best practices from countries like Australia, Singapore, and Denmark regarding child online safety and digital protection laws. The government also announced large-scale awareness programs in schools and communities, including No Bag Day sessions and Mega PTMs, to educate students, parents, and SHG women about the negative impacts of social media.
