The tragic incident in which a mother ended her life along with her two young children on the Charlapalli railway track has triggered widespread shock across the Telugu states. In the early hours of Saturday, all three died after being run over by a goods train. The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a case and launched an investigation. Police have seized the mobile phone and laptop of the deceased, Vijayareddy, and sent them for forensic examination. Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe that loneliness may have been the primary factor behind her extreme decision.
According to police, on Friday evening Vijayareddy brought her two children back from their hostels and parked her car at the Charlapalli railway station parking area. She reportedly wrote a suicide note on the back of the parking slip stating that she no longer wished to live and feared that her children would be left alone if she survived. Police said she photographed the note and posted it as her WhatsApp status before proceeding with the children to the railway track, where they died by suicide. After post-mortem examinations, the bodies were handed over to family members, and the last rites were performed on Sunday evening at Bibinagar.
Vijayareddy married Surender Reddy in 2007. Four years ago, Surender Reddy moved to Dubai after securing a job there. Vijayareddy was living in Raghavendra Nagar near Uppal Depot in Hyderabad with her children and her mother, Pushpalatha. She was employed as a team leader at an IT company. Due to night shifts, her children were staying in hostels for their education. Sources indicate that prolonged separation from her husband, work-related stress, and the burden of managing family responsibilities alone had taken a toll on her mental well-being. She had reportedly shared her distress with relatives and friends in recent times. Family members stated that they never anticipated such an extreme step and broke down during the funeral proceedings.
As part of the investigation, police questioned two of her team members after examining the last calls and chat records on her mobile phone. Officials clarified that the messages were work-related. Police are also probing other possible angles, including family disputes and property-related issues. The incident sparked extensive discussion on social media on Sunday. Experts have emphasized the need for society to respond more sensitively to issues of loneliness and mental stress among women.
