The central government has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for the missile test to be held off the Visakhapatnam coast on December 11. Official information has revealed that the missile launch range for this test has been extended from 1,050 km to 1,190 km. Although the Centre had earlier issued notices to mark the 3,485 km range as a danger zone from December 1-4, the test was later cancelled.
NOTAMs are of utmost importance in the aviation sector. NOTAMs play a major role in providing early warnings to pilots and airlines on important issues such as ATC changes, runway repairs, airspace closures, aircraft movements, and safety monitoring. Issuing NOTAMs in the wake of the upcoming missile test is one of the precautionary measures taken as part of the security measures.
