Jammu and Kashmir created a new chapter in Indian domestic cricket by winning the Ranji Trophy for the first time. In the final held at Hubballi, J&K defeated eight-time champions Karnataka with a dominant performance. The historic win brought immense pride and joy to the entire region. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah personally traveled to Hubballi to witness the match and cheer for the team on the final day.
Following the victory, CM Omar Abdullah announced a cash reward of ₹2 crore for the players and support staff. He also promised government jobs for outstanding sportspersons under the recently notified rules. Abdullah said the triumph marks a turning point in J&K cricket and will inspire young players across the state.

In the match, skipper Paras Dogra led from the front as J&K posted a massive 584 in the first innings, thanks to a brilliant century by Shubham Pundir. Though Karnataka’s Mayank Agarwal fought back with 160 runs, J&K bowler Aqib Nabi Dar’s five-wicket haul turned the game in their favor. Centuries from Kamran Iqbal and Sahil Lothra in the second innings ensured the match ended in a draw, but J&K won the title on the basis of their first-innings lead.
