Global IT major Infosys is set to establish a permanent campus in Visakhapatnam. The Andhra Pradesh government has given in-principle approval to allocate 20 acres of land at Yendada. Discussions between government officials and Infosys representatives have reportedly concluded positively and an official announcement is expected later this month. Talks regarding incentives and basic facilities are also in the final stage. At present, Infosys is operating from a temporary facility at IT Hills in Vizag.
Infosys already has campuses in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Mysore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. With the decision to set up a campus in Visakhapatnam, the company will have a presence in all southern Indian states. The state government began discussions with Infosys around two months ago to bring the campus to Vizag.
Meanwhile, several other major IT companies are also moving towards Visakhapatnam. Google, Reliance and Sify have signed agreements to set up large data centers, while TCS, Cognizant and Accenture have launched or are preparing to launch operations from temporary campuses. Minister Lokesh’s recent tweet hinting at “world champions” arriving in Vizag has further highlighted the city’s growing importance as an IT destination.
