India marked a major milestone in modern transportation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country’s first high-speed metro system during his visit to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi–Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS), designed to transform regional connectivity, allows trains to operate at speeds of up to 120 kmph, significantly enhancing travel efficiency between the two cities. The Prime Minister also took a ride on the high-speed metro, interacting with passengers and officials.
With the launch of the project, travel time between Delhi and Meerut is expected to reduce to nearly 55 minutes, offering faster, safer, and more comfortable commuting options for thousands of daily passengers. Along with the metro inauguration, PM Modi also dedicated development projects worth ₹12,930 crore to the nation, highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure expansion and next-generation urban mobility.
