

Mangala Kuppa, a technology leader of Indian descent, has been appointed as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the U.S. Department of Labor. She had been serving in an acting capacity since October last year and has now been given full CIO responsibilities. Earlier this March, Kuppa was also appointed as the Artificial Intelligence (AI) officer for the Labor Department, overseeing IT strategy, digital transformation, and AI implementation.
With over 25 years of experience in technology, Kuppa joined the Labor Department in 2010. She has held key positions including Chief Technology Officer and Director of Business Application Services. She has played a vital role in developing enterprise AI strategies, expanding data platforms, and strengthening cybersecurity systems. A graduate of SNDTT Women’s University, Kuppa’s appointment highlights the growing representation of Indian-American professionals in top U.S. government technology leadership roles.
