

A grand historical film titled Raja Shivaji, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is set to captivate audiences. Bollywood actor and director Riteish Deshmukh will not only portray the iconic warrior king but also helm the project as director. The film is being jointly produced by Genelia Deshmukh under Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios. Scheduled for a worldwide release on May 1, 2026, coinciding with Maharashtra Day, the film will be released in multiple languages including Marathi, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. The makers have recently unveiled an impressive teaser.
The teaser vividly showcases Shivaji Maharaj’s struggle for Swarajya and the intense historical backdrop of that era. A powerful dialogue delivered in the voice of Sanjay Dutt, questioning whether destiny holds death or slavery for the Marathas, is answered with “Swarajya” by Riteish Deshmukh, emerging as the highlight. Renowned cinematographer Santosh Sivan is handling the visuals, while music is composed by Ajay–Atul. The film also features prominent actors like Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan in key roles, raising expectations significantly.
