Cyber criminals who cheated Urmila, wife of former IPS officer JD Lakshminarayana, have been arrested by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. The accused targeted her through a WhatsApp message in November last year, luring her with false promises of massive profits through stock market investments. Believing the claims, and due to a lack of trading knowledge, Urmila sought assistance from her husband while proceeding with the investments.
Between December 24 and January 5, the fraudsters collected ₹2.58 crore in 19 installments, falsely showing profits of nearly ₹2 crore on the trading platform. When Urmila attempted to withdraw the amount, the accused demanded additional money, which raised suspicion and led her to file a police complaint. Following an investigation, cyber crime police arrested four accused belonging to Bihar and West Bengal, exposing a well-planned online trading scam.
