The Telangana High Court has expressed strong displeasure over Gitam University for failing to pay electricity bills for several years. The Southern Power Distribution Company (SPDCL) issued notices stating that the university has outstanding dues of ₹118 crore since 2008. Challenging these notices, Gitam University approached the High Court.
During the hearing, Justice Nagesh Bhimapaka questioned the authorities, saying, “If ordinary citizens fail to pay even ₹1,000, their power connection is cut. Why is Gitam University being given special treatment?”
The court directed the Superintending Engineer to appear personally and provide a full explanation regarding the pending bills. Further hearing in the case will be held soon.
