The powerful Montha cyclone is rapidly approaching the Andhra Pradesh coast. According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone is intensifying quickly and is likely to become the strongest storm of the year. As per the latest forecasts, it is expected to make landfall along the Andhra coast around midnight on October 28 or in the early hours of October 29. The cyclone’s impact is likely to be felt from Visakhapatnam to Tirupati, while neighboring Telangana—especially Hyderabad—may also experience heavy rainfall. With wind speeds expected to reach 70 to 100 km/h, authorities have warned of possible uprooted trees, power outages, and property damage.
Given the worsening situation, the government has declared a Red Alert for coastal districts. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea, and residents in low-lying areas are urged to stay alert and be ready for evacuation if needed. Machilipatnam, Diviseema, Vijayawada, Guntur, Eluru, and the East and West Godavari districts are expected to be the most affected. Authorities have also hinted that schools and colleges in these regions may remain closed on October 28 and 29 due to the cyclone’s severity. The government has urged the public to remain calm but vigilant and to follow only official updates and advisories.
