Grand celebrations marked the 77 th Republic Day in India’s national capital, New Delhi, with patriotism soaring high at Kartavya Path. The festivities began with the President of India unfurling the national flag, followed by a visually stunning parade that drew admiration from all quarters. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial. President Droupadi Murmu later welcomed the chief guests - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa — before arriving at Kartavya Path in a traditional buggy to formally inaugurate the celebrations.
The Republic Day Parade commenced with the march of the Tri-Services, led by Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar. Military contingents, Pracchand helicopter fly-pasts, and the first-ever participation of cavalry troops in combat uniform were major highlights. The parade, themed “Vande Mataram,” showcased India’s development, cultural diversity, and the strength of Operation Sindoor through displays of indigenous weapon systems. For the first time, the Indian Army marched in the Battle Array Format, demonstrating operational preparedness. The event also featured European military officers participating with their national flags. Prior to the celebrations, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla was awarded the Ashoka Chakra by the President, marking his historic achievement as the first Indian to visit the International Space Station.
