

A fire incident was reported in Train No. 18189 Tatanagar–Ernakulam Express at around 12:45 AM on December 29, 2025, while the train was approaching Elamanchili Railway Station in Vijayawada Division. In the incident, the B1 and M2 coaches caught fire.
Railway staff acted quickly and immediately informed the fire brigade. Railway officials also took prompt action and helped passengers safely deboard the train. The fire brigade reached the spot and successfully extinguished the fire. The two affected coaches were detached from the train and one more AC III Tier coach (M1) was also detached as a precautionary measure.
The remaining train formation is being moved to Samalkot Railway Station. Three empty coaches are being arranged to be attached to the train at Samalkot. Passengers from the two affected coaches are being shifted to Samalkot Railway Station through bus services. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (SCR), Vijayawada DRM and other senior officials rushed to the site. The General Manager of South Central Railway is also proceeding to the location. A forensic team and a medical team are moving to the spot to find out the cause of the fire and to check if there were any casualties. All necessary precautions are being taken in coordination with the local administration.
