Aamir Khan’s new film delays ‘3 Idiots’ sequel?

The long awaited sequel to 3 Idiots is once again likely to face delays as Aamir Khan appears to prioritize a new major project. Despite discussions around the sequel continuing for years, no official production has begun, and his current commitments may push it further back.

Aamir Khan is reportedly set to collaborate with director Ashutosh Gowariker for a historical sports-based biopic. The film is said to be based on the life of legendary cricketer Lala Amarnath and will highlight early India–Pakistan Test cricket history.

Industry sources say the script is ready and pre-production is progressing rapidly with large-scale planning. The film will focus on realistic recreation of historical sporting events and era details. With Aamir fully engaged in this project, work on 3 Idiots 2, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is expected to be delayed further, possibly beyond 2027.
