The 2026 summer season has turned out to be one of the most disappointing periods in Telugu cinema history. Unlike the usual May festival of big releases, this year saw a complete lack of major star films hitting the screens, which shocked the industry. Even big projects such as Peddi, starring Ram Charan, were postponed, leaving the summer box office almost empty. Extreme heat conditions and the impact of the IPL further reduced audience turnout in theatres.
As a result, several single screen theatres were forced to shut down temporarily due to poor business. Small films failed to attract audiences, while only a few dubbed movies provided minimal relief in the final weeks. Overall, the season ended with heavy losses, and trade analysts are calling it a “box office disaster summer”. Industry experts believe recovery depends on the release of big-budget films in the coming months.
