Hundreds and thousands of young girls and women, driven by poverty, family neglect, or dreams of modeling careers, fell into the trap of wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein and became victims of an international sex-trafficking network. Survivors who managed to escape later revealed horrifying experiences that exposed how vulnerable young women were systematically exploited. The controversy resurfaced globally after reports suggested that even an Indian victim’s name appeared among those affected, reigniting discussions about safeguarding children and holding powerful offenders accountable.
The Epstein case gained renewed momentum largely due to investigative journalist Julie K. Brown of the Miami Herald. By carefully examining legal documents and tracking down nearly 80 victims, she uncovered how Epstein received an unusually lenient plea deal in 2008 despite serious allegations. Her 2018 investigative series, later published as Perversion of Justice, revealed systemic failures within the legal system and triggered federal authorities to reopen the case. Epstein was arrested in July 2019 but died under suspicious circumstances in jail while awaiting trial, leaving behind unanswered questions about justice and accountability.
