The death of an Indian-origin man in Canada has sparked widespread debate, drawing a sharp reaction from billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. Musk criticised the Canadian healthcare system, indirectly comparing it to the inefficiencies of the US motor vehicle department.
The incident involved Prashanth Srikumar, an Indian-origin resident in Canada, who reportedly complained of chest pain and was taken to a hospital in Edmonton. Doctors conducted an ECG test and reportedly ruled out a heart attack. While he was waiting at the hospital, his condition worsened, and he collapsed due to severe pain, leading to his death.
Family members alleged that medical negligence led to Prashanth’s death. His wife also claimed that hospital staff behaved rudely and failed to respond promptly despite repeated requests for help. Media reports on the incident triggered a reaction from Elon Musk, who questioned the effectiveness of Canada’s healthcare system and criticised its functioning.
Musk’s comments have added fuel to the ongoing debate over healthcare quality in Canada, especially concerning emergency response and patient care.
