In a city like Hyderabad, deliveries for groceries or food typically take 10 minutes if nearby, and up to two hours when distances stretch to 30 km due to traffic congestion. However, Sky Air is redefining last-mile logistics by introducing hyperlocal drone delivery networks that can complete deliveries within just seven minutes. After successfully deploying services in Delhi and Bengaluru, the company is now preparing to launch operations in Hyderabad by July next year. The announcement was made during the annual event of Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association. Sky Air is already part of Telangana’s “Medicines from Sky” initiative and aims to achieve up to 3.75 lakh deliveries per day in Hyderabad, following its large-scale operations in Delhi.
The system operates through virtual sky tunnels that allow drones to travel safely between warehouses and delivery zones. Supported by unmanned traffic management systems, drones assess weather conditions and aerial congestion in real time. Flying at an altitude of 120 meters, they descend to about 20 meters near the destination and drop packages onto designated skypads, from where delivery personnel complete the final step. Equipped with 5G modules, real-time tracking, and advanced sensors, each drone can carry up to 10 kg. With Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) permissions, these drones can autonomously navigate long distances while avoiding obstacles. Each delivery reduces carbon emissions by approximately 520 grams, making the system both efficient and environmentally friendly.
