Due to the impact of Cyclone Montha, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in several districts of Andhra Pradesh for the next three days, according to the Disaster Management Authority.
The deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclone over the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal by Sunday night, said Disaster Management Authority MD Prakhar Jain. He stated that by Tuesday morning it will strengthen into a severe cyclone and cross the coast near Kakinada by that night. Wind speeds along the coast may reach 90 to 110 kmph, and people are advised to stay safely indoors.
Funds Released Under TR-27
Jain added that 9 SDRF and 7 NDRF teams have been deployed across districts, with additional teams on standby at headquarters. Considering the cyclone’s impact, funds have been released under TR-27 for districts to carry out relief operations, transport affected people to shelters, provide safe drinking water, food, milk, health camps, and undertake emergency road and infrastructure repairs.
