The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has achieved a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. According to investigators, a mobile phone used by the terrorists has been traced to a consignment of smartphones imported into Pakistan in 2021. The shipment was reportedly financed through a Karachi-based financial institution, providing investigators with crucial leads regarding the origins of the device.
Forensic examination of the recovered Xiaomi smartphones revealed vital evidence, including photographs, maps, and reconnaissance material linked to the attack. Officials found that one of the devices had remained inactive for several years before being used during the operation, raising suspicions that it had been deliberately preserved for terrorist activities. The NIA believes these findings could help uncover the communication and logistical networks supporting Pakistan-backed terror groups involved in the attack that claimed 26 lives.
