Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will reach Medaram on the 18th of this month and stay there overnight. He is scheduled to inaugurate the Medaram redevelopment works on the 19th and offer prayers to Sammakka and Saralamma. After the event, he will return to Hyderabad and proceed to the Davos summit. However, officials indicated that the inauguration may be advanced by a day in view of the Chief Minister’s foreign visit.
Meanwhile, large crowds of devotees are arriving at Medaram in Mulugu district’s Tadvai mandal well ahead of the Maha Jathara. Due to the weekend holiday, around two lakh devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and other states visited the Sammakka – Saralamma shrines to offer prayers. Ongoing redevelopment works at the gaddelu premises have caused inconvenience to devotees. As part of the Jathara tradition, priests led by Vanam Pothuraju bring Goddess Sammakka from the forest to the shrine, and considering the significance of this ritual, tribal priests have decided to set up a separate gaddi for the ceremony.
