

Amaravati: The Central Government has signed an agreement with the Government of Andhra Pradesh under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. Speaking virtually from New Delhi, Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil stated that approvals for Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 have been granted in response to requests from various states. He noted that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had discussed the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed gratitude for his proposal to extend the mission.
The Minister explained that in the first phase of Jal Jeevan Mission, tap water connections have been provided to 16 crore households so far. He said that certain shortcomings in the project are being addressed while ensuring continued maintenance. He also stated that safe drinking water still needs to be provided to 3 crore households across the country. The extension of the mission has been carried out in line with schemes approved prior to 2024. He further suggested utilizing the services of DWCRA women in Andhra Pradesh for water quality testing.
He added that Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 will help eliminate the burden of fetching water for nearly 9 crore women across the country. He emphasized that providing safe drinking water to every household is crucial for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring timely water supply for agricultural needs. The Minister proposed holding a virtual meeting with district collectors in Andhra Pradesh soon to set clear targets for the implementation of JJM 2.0. He further urged that funds under PM Janman and PM Jan Bhagidari missions be effectively utilized to provide safe drinking water in remote areas. He assured full support from the Centre and urged Andhra Pradesh to make optimal use of the program.
