PCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that the defeat of the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha is a victory for democracy and the Constitution. He alleged that the BJP attempted to bring in the delimitation bill unlawfully to gain political advantage by increasing seats in North India, but said that the Congress and opposition forces successfully blocked this move.
He further said that while Congress had supported the Women’s Reservation law introduced in 2023, the BJP tried to delay its implementation till 2029 under the pretext of constitutional amendments and delimitation. He added that Congress’s demand for a nationwide caste census before such amendments has prevailed. Calling it a democratic win, he asserted that Congress will continue to pressure the BJP to implement women’s reservations and safeguard constitutional values.
