Amazon is reportedly preparing for another massive round of layoffs, affecting nearly 30,000 corporate employees starting Tuesday. This marks the largest workforce reduction by the e-commerce giant since the COVID-19 pandemic. The layoffs are said to impact several key divisions, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Human Resources (People Experience and Technology), and Devices & Services.According to reports, affected employees will receive official notifications via email starting Tuesday morning (U.S. time).
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is leading this move as part of his ongoing cost-cutting strategy, aimed at making the company “leaner and more agile.”Globally, Amazon employs over 1.54 million people, including warehouse staff. Since 2022, the company has already eliminated over 27,000 jobs through multiple smaller rounds of layoffs. This latest phase could become one of the largest single tech layoff rounds since industry tracking began in 2020, as per Layoffs.fyi.
The broader tech industry continues to face turbulence, with Microsoft, Meta, Google, Intel, and Salesforce also reducing their headcounts amid rising investment in AI-driven efficiency.
