Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Maharaja’ to Be Remade in Hollywood

Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi’s Tamil crime thriller ‘Maharaja’ has achieved another major milestone on the international stage. Released in 2024, the film received a strong response from audiences and is now being considered for a Hollywood remake. Producer Sudhan Sundaram has confirmed that a prominent Hollywood agency approached them regarding the remake rights. The film also received an impressive response in China, where it reportedly earned around Rs. 91.65 crore at the box office. Its strong performance on OTT platforms further helped attract international attention.

According to Sudhan Sundaram, the agency is looking to develop the Hollywood remake with a star actor, with filming potentially beginning next year. Matthew McConaughey’s name is currently being discussed on social media for the lead role, although no casting has been officially confirmed. The agency is expected to announce details regarding the cast and studio. Directed by Nithilan Saminathan, ‘Maharaja’ begins with a barber reporting to the police that a dustbin named ‘Lakshmi’ has gone missing from his house, setting off a series of unexpected twists. Anurag Kashyap played the antagonist, while Sanjana Nambiar, who portrayed Sethupathi’s daughter, received the National Award for Best Supporting Actress.
