Bollywood actor and filmmaker Riteish Deshmukh has found himself at the centre of a controversy following a viral video from the success celebration of his film Raja Shivaji. The film recently became a box office success, and a video from the success party sparked criticism after he was seen dancing while wearing a T-shirt featuring Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s image. Some social media users objected to the act, leading to online trolling.
Responding through Instagram, Riteish Deshmukh clarified that there was no intention to disrespect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He explained that he wore the T-shirt as part of film promotions and did not have time to change before attending the event. He also denied allegations of alcohol consumption, stating that he has never consumed alcohol in his life and will not do so in the future. He apologised if any sentiments were hurt and expressed deep respect for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film Raja Shivaji reportedly became the highest-grossing Marathi film, earning around ₹117.41 crore gross.
