Ace filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli is currently deep into the making of what is being described as the most ambitious project of his career, Varanasi, a globe-spanning action adventure rooted in ancient mythology and inspired by the epic Ramayana. The film stars Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles, with Priyanka Chopra playing a pivotal character. From African landscapes to the icy terrains of Antarctica, the scale of the film has fueled massive curiosity since its announcement.
Putting an end to long-standing speculation, Rajamouli has officially confirmed that Varanasi will be a single-part film with a runtime of approximately three hours. Speaking to Hollywood media outlet Screen Rant during the launch of the film’s glimpse in Hyderabad last November, the director revealed that while a two-part structure was initially considered, the idea was dropped early in production. He also spoke about filming in the IMAX 1.43:1 aspect ratio, stating that the story demanded a larger canvas to capture its grandeur. Although the release is still a year away, Varanasi continues to generate unprecedented global buzz, amplified further by its unique title glimpse and innovative release-date announcement.
