Actress Nithya Menen has reacted to the ongoing controversy surrounding ‘Peddi’, where Janhvi Kapoor’s character has been criticized for being portrayed in a highly glamorized manner. She stated that she has not yet watched the film, but strongly opposes the objectification of women on screen. According to her, this issue is not limited to South cinema but exists across global film industries.
She further explained that hyper-commercialization of films often leads to such portrayals, as filmmakers try to attract audiences and ensure box office success. Nithya Menen emphasized that actors must set clear personal boundaries from the beginning of their careers and should confidently refuse roles that make them uncomfortable. She added that once an actor is typecast, it becomes difficult to change perceptions later in the industry.
