The portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character Achiyamma in Peddi has sparked widespread criticism. While audiences have praised Ram Charan’s performance, many have raised objections over the way Janhvi’s role was depicted on screen. Women viewers, in particular, expressed strong displeasure. Responding swiftly, director Buchi Babu apologized and announced that the controversial scenes would be removed. Despite this, the debate continues, with several actresses, including Dimple Hayathi and Ashika Ranganath, along with some Bollywood celebrities, voicing their concerns.
Actor Nithya Menen has now shared her perspective, opposing the objectification of women in cinema. Though she has not watched Peddi, she extended her support to Janhvi Kapoor. Nithya emphasized that portraying women as objects is not limited to South Indian cinema but is a global issue. She stated that commercial pressures often lead to exaggerated portrayals and advised actresses to exercise self-restraint by rejecting roles that cross boundaries. Directed by Buchi Babu, Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, released on June 4 and received mixed reviews but performed strongly at the box office, collecting ₹236.7 crore gross in three days.
