Folk singer Nagavva’s song “Bayilone Balli Palike” has become a major trend on YouTube, bringing her wide recognition. In a recent interview, she shared the story behind the song. Nagavva said the song came from her grandmother and is based on the belief that a lizard’s sound is a sign of good luck. She explained that in olden days, people hid gold and silver in wells due to fear of theft and it was believed that digging where a lizard made a sound would reveal hidden treasure. This belief became the core idea of the song.
Nagavva belongs to Gollakota village in Enapalli mandal of Jagtial district and earns her living through farming. Singing folk songs was her way of relaxing after farm work and cheering people around her. With this song, she became an overnight star. She also mentioned that her son, Tirupati Reddy, worked very hard on the song and dreams of becoming a lyricist and director.
With support from Mangli and Damodar Reddy, the song first got a chance in a film but was later made as an independent video. After waiting for three years, the song was finally released. More than Rs. 15 lakh was spent, around 150 technicians were involved and the shoot was completed in just three days. Within a month of release, the song crossed 70 million views, gained nearly 1 million views per day and almost recovered the entire investment.
