Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu, who continues to work on back to back films and interact with the media, has once again made strong comments that are drawing attention. Reacting to the poor box office performance of Alia Bhatt’s action film Alpha, Taapsee said some of the women centric projects she had lined up were reportedly cancelled. She expressed disappointment that investors tend to become cautious about female-led action films after a single failure.
Taapsee questioned why a failed action film starring a major male star is often blamed on its story or script, while a similar failure involving a female lead is used to question the viability of women centric projects. She also said audiences readily accept male stars in action films even when the story is weak, but scrutinize every aspect when actresses attempt something different. Her comments on what she sees as a double standard in the industry are now sparking discussion on social media.
