Telugu cinema is currently showing a distinct inclination towards rural backdrops. Instead of opting for exotic foreign locations, young heroes and directors are choosing lush green fields and villages as the settings for their films. This shift is yielding positive results at the box office. The recent grand success of the film Raju Veds Rambai stands as a testament to this trend. Prior to this, the movie Balagam also achieved tremendous success, while Rangasthalam went on to set new records.
Madhav Bhupathiraju—the nephew of "Mass Maharaja" Ravi Teja—has joined this trend with his debut film, Maremma. Set against the rural landscape of Telangana, this movie is being crafted as a raw and rustic action drama. Trade circles have expressed optimism regarding this project. The fact that new-generation heroes are choosing to portray such authentic, grounded characters is giving a fresh dimension to their public image. This is undoubtedly a positive sign for the film industry as a whole.
Following the success of Balagam, director Venu Yeldandi has now turned his focus to the film Yellamma. Starring Devi Sri Prasad in the lead role, this movie revolves around rural culture and traditions. Drawing inspiration from his experience with Balagam, the director aims to explore and portray even deeper emotional nuances in this upcoming project. Devi Sri Prasad's dual contribution—as both the lead actor and the music composer—is expected to add significant strength to the film. Meanwhile, Kiran Abbavaram is set to release his film Thimmarajupalli TV—in which he serves as the producer—on April 17th.
