With a career spanning over three decades in Indian cinema, Akshaye Khanna has portrayed a wide range of memorable characters. However, 2025 stands out as a defining golden chapter in his journey. Once celebrated as a chocolate-boy hero, Akshaye has reinvented himself as a powerful antagonist, creating a massive impact at the box office. In a remarkable feat, he became only the second Indian actor to cross ₹2,000 crore in gross collections within a single year, a milestone previously achieved solely by Shah Rukh Khan.
The transformation began with Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar, where Akshaye stunned audiences as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The film, released early in 2025, earned ₹809 crore worldwide. The momentum continued with Dhurandhar, a spy thriller directed by Aditya Dhar, where Akshaye’s portrayal of gangster Rehman Dakait emerged as the standout performance. With Dhurandhar grossing ₹1,167 crore, the combined total of both films reached ₹2,001 crore, placing Akshaye Khanna in an elite league. Among non-Khan actors, he currently stands alone in achieving this rare box-office milestone in a single calendar year.
