Rare Heart Surgery Successfully Performed at KIMS

Doctors at KIMS Hospital, Raidurg, successfully performed a robotic-assisted mitral valve replacement surgery, saving the life of a 37-year-old patient with minimal surgical incisions. The patient from Rajahmundry was suffering from mitral stenosis, a condition in which the heart valve becomes thickened, leading to severe palpitations and breathing difficulties. Doctors decided on surgery after medical treatment became insufficient.

Unlike conventional open-heart surgery that requires cutting the chest bone, the robotic procedure was performed through small incisions on July 23. Doctors removed the damaged valve and replaced it with a metal valve through robotic intra-cardiac surgery. This was the first robotic heart valve replacement procedure performed at KIMS Hospital, according to the medical team. The surgery was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Nisarga along with a team of specialists.
