A growing number of Indians are reportedly using diabetes medications to aid in weight loss, raising serious health concerns. Recent reports reveal that the sales of these drugs have soared to nearly ₹100 crore in just one month, highlighting how quickly they’ve gained popularity as a quick-fix solution for obesity.
Health experts, however, warn that these medicines provide only a temporary effect and may pose long-term risks if used without proper medical supervision. They stress that relying solely on such drugs can lead to dependency and other complications once the medication is stopped.
Doctors emphasize that sustainable weight loss can be achieved only through healthy lifestyle changes — including a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and stress management. They urge people to use weight loss medications only under a doctor’s guidance, not as a shortcut to fitness.
