According to health experts, many people have a habit of drinking water immediately after or during meals. This can weaken digestive enzymes, hinder proper digestion, and lead to issues like indigestion, gas, and stomach pain. Drinking water right after meals can also lower stomach temperature, cause food to stay longer in the stomach, and result in weight gain, bloating, and acidity problems.
Experts recommend drinking water 45 – 60 minutes after meals. If drinking before a meal, it is advised to drink water 30 minutes prior to aid nutrient absorption. Drinking water at the right time strengthens digestion, keeps the stomach light, reduces bloating and acidity, helps the body absorb nutrients efficiently, and improves sleep quality.
